Position Overview:
The Database Administrator and Infrastructure Specialist position holds database, integration, architecture design and some data movement programming responsibilities. The Database Administrator has full responsibility for all database environments and participates in the design, coding, installation, release and monitoring of application development code and integration with internal/external systems. Working as a member of the Infrastructure team the Specialist often coordinates, and sometimes takes lead, on infrastructure centric projects.
This Database Administrator serves as a liaison between the infrastructure and application development teams ensuring a consistent, stable and secure foundation for internal and external database operating environments.
Essential Duties/
Responsibilities:
Working for the Manager of Infrastructure Services and Support, responsibilities will include the following;
Manage all aspects of the database environments, including reporting systems, which today include MS-SQL Server and VMware virtual infrastructure, MySQL and Tableau Server.
Reverse engineer ring of existing database environments, including the data warehouse/reporting layer, to create current state physical and logical data models.
Develop a plan to upgrade and install database management systems with software and hardware dependencies; responsible for infrastructure build per skill level.
Assess and execute performance and tuning exercises within database and data integration (ETL) environments.
Improve throughput efficiency and reduce business security risk using best practice database design and integration protocols.
Monitor business data and report delivery commitments and resolve incidents.
Monitor environments for capacity, successful and available backups, stability of users and security risk; present and execute improvement recommendations.
Participate as a member of a testing and quality assurance team on projects to review developer database code for performance, security and best practice design.
Participate as a member of a release management team for project implementation.
Assess the quality of core business data through profiling exercises and present opportunities for improvement to technical and business management teams.
Identify and map all sensitive data elements to a context workflow diagram; establish and execute a monitoring plan.
Identify the benefit and long-term need for a data archive and purge policy; present alternatives from the current state.
Participate as a member of the business continuity and disaster recovery team.
Monitor application and service for availability commitments.
Capable of working flexible hours to meet the demands of the position.
Knowledge:
Demonstrates strong experience with all aspects of database systems management and the relationship to projects following a structured System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Hands-on database design and business data modeling, including business process design supporting data integration practices.
Has established simple to complex testing and quality assurance plans in an iterative development life cycle.
Understands data center and infrastructure design/implementation; in particular is working within a virtualized environment.
Experience in Microsoft Office tools including Project, Visio and PowerPoint.
Experience in working with Tableau Application Server is a plus.
Experience in pharmacy or health care is a plus.

Skills:
Excellent technical database administration, data modeling and infrastructure design skills.
Excellent MS-SQL Server skills running in a VMware clustering environment, including failover and other high available technologies.
Hands-on experience developing, reviewing, deploying and tuning SSIS/SSRS packages.
Hands-on performance and tuning using database and programming utilities.
Designing application backup, recovery and general business continuity/disaster recovery plans.
Strategic thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Capable of working in a fast pace environment, managing multiple initiatives and ability to adapt changing priorities.
