AnyDescriptionTo represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA.
The Wellness Center Instructor, under the supervision of the Health and Wellness Director, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable leadership to the members, volunteers and program participants.
All Merrimack Valley YMCA staff will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.

Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include, tracking hourly Wellness Center usage, re-filing of exercise cards and updating if needed, enforce and follow Wellness Center Guidelines for equipment usage, appropriate attire, age requirements, conduct, etc.
Program responsibilities include, but are not limited to; Instruct and promote Wellness Center programming.
Ensure and maintain quality of program and that it meets YMCA National standards and complies with all safety regulations.
Maintain the overall cleanliness and appearance of the Wellness Center by following the cleaning schedule.
Serve as a YMCA resource in the area of health and fitness programming.
Keep safety as a first priority.
Emphasize personal safety and emotional well being of all staff, volunteers, members and program participants using the YMCA and the YMCA Wellness Center.
By personal example helps interpret quality of YMCA Character Values or Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
Reports all accidents/unusual incidents immediately to the Member Advancement Director with all necessary documentation.
Accept and perform all other responsibilities necessary for the good of the organization.
Performs other duties as required by supervisor (remains flexible).
Responsible for day-to-day operation of the Wellness Center during scheduled shift.
Ensure member satisfaction by utilizing Activate America and Member Involvement Model while interacting with members, program participants and volunteers.
Initiate and represent a high quality of service and connectedness with all members, participants, volunteers and potential members in the wellness center and throughout the YMCA Be knowledgeable about various YMCA programs and events information.
Be available to members, program participants and staff for questions, concerns, comments and follow up as needed.
Provides leadership and support of Annual Campaign that result in achievement of our annual fund-raising goal.
Actively promote membership within department.
Increase visibility and credibility of YMCA programs.
Participate in the Activate America initiative.
Wear your staff shirt and ID badge for all shifts.
Attend staff training's and update your skills as position demands.
Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
QualificationsPrior experience in the health and fitness field preferred.
CPR and First Aid certification within 60 days of date of hire (obtained on their own).
Certified YMCA or nationally recognized Certified Personal Training Instructor preferred.
Must understand the function and operation of all equipment in the Wellness Center.
Must possess and utilize excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.
Demonstrate prior ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Attend New Employee Orientation within 60 days of date of hire.
Must have good human relations' and communication skills to facilitate positive relationships with staff, volunteers, parents, members and program participants.
Must be committed to the Merrimack Valley YMCA's mission, character development and goals.
Able to stand/move while on shift for 4 - 5 hours without sitting.
Ability to perform exercise equipment instruction, demonstration, spotting, and promote safe and effective training protocols.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Able to reach, bend, kneel and clean wellness center equipment, reporting maintenance issues and following the cleaning schedule.
Able to work and communicate clearly and effectively as part of a staff team both verbally and in writing.
Must remain flexible for job specific and general YMCA trainings and mandatory staff meetings.
Ability to achieve YMCA of the USA Principles of Health and Fitness certification or other nationally recognized certification approved by supervisor within 6 months of hire.
