Part time Role (overview of this position):
Under the direct supervision of a supervising pharmacist and lead technician, this technician will follow policies and procedures to perform simple, moderate, complex, and hazardous non-sterile compounding for patient specific prescriptions for both human and veterinary patients.
Specific to a compounding technician, this person must have the math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplications, division, ratios, proportions, percentages, fractions) to perform the pharmaceutical dosage calculations required to compound non-sterile preparations.
This technician must be responsible and self-motivated, have good time management and multitasking skills, impeccable attention to detail, an interest in learning new information and skills, and be open to working in an ever-changing environment.
Responsibilities (Critical behaviors associated with this role):
Compounding:
Compounds non-sterile preparations according to USP , USP , and all established policies and procedures.
Calculations:
Performs pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare non-sterile compounded preparations.
Inventory Management:
Monitors and maintains inventory including ordering, receiving, and outdating chemicals and medications.
Lab Maintenance:
Cleans and maintains all work areas, storage areas, and compounding equipment.
Continuous Quality Improvement:
Submits samples of various compounds monthly for potency testing.
Continuing Education:
Completes annual continuing education requirements required by the BOP to maintain certification, and all training required by Letourneau's Compounding Pharmacy Software Knowledge:
Performs all duties and responsibilities within the pharmacy computer systems (Rx30 and The Compounder Software).
Collaboration:
Assists with other tasks and responsibilities as required by the pharmacist or lead technician.
Interested in learning new tasks and expanding their role within the pharmacy.
Requirements (expected proficiencies):
Preferred Bilingual preferred Required High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician by passing either the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) or the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE).
Must have a current Massachusetts Technician Registration in good standing.
Must be able to speak the English language, read, interpret, and follow complicated verbal and written instruction with precision, accuracy, and dependability.
The ability to stand and walk 90% of the day and occasionally lift up to 30lbs.
The ability to grasp and perform fine manipulation with hands.
